Sorry only 765Pro girls for this post. I'm not that familiar with all the CG or ML girls. There's just too many of them. It should be obvious by now my favorite out of all of them is Chihaya, though Takane is an extremely close second. I love that she's not your typical happy-happy idol (looks over at bland Haruka). She's not the idol cliche of needing to do a ton of work to improve, she has a lot of natural talent for both singing and dancing (seen in both the anime and especially the manga). Besides having one of the deepest backstories of all the idols that has a ton of emotion behind it, she also has an interesting character. She's the unexpected main-comic relief character in the manga series, a few of the anime episodes, and the OVA episodes. "When not focused on singing, Chihaya has an extremely odd, unusual and an outgoing personality" - IM@S wikia She's just your typical goof hiding under a layer of tough-girl to protect her feelings so they cannot be hurt again. All that and she can sing almost any song...except Ohayou!! Asagohan where they asked Asami Imai to sing extremely staccato. Hey it wasn't her idea to sing like that. I guess in order of favorite to least favorite (personality wise) would be: Chihaya/Takane, Hibiki, Makoto, Mami, Yayoi, Azusa, Ami, Miki, Ritsuko, Haruka, Yukiho, Iori Performance wise would be: Takane, Chihaya, Hibiki, Azusa, Makoto, Yukiho, Mami/Ami, Miki, Iori, Ritsuko, Yayoi, Haruka

I'm a HUGE Ritsuko fan! She's my top idol and always will be! My reason being is because she's unique and really cute! She sings every song perfectly (in my opinion) but the sad thing is that she's completely underrated. Not many people like her because of her voice. Not many people know that Naomi Wakabayashi is using her REAL voice when she's playing Ritsuko. I think that she's really talented to have a voice like that! Plus, Ritsuko is a really hard worker and does almost everything around the office to help with auditions, lives, or just management! Also, she and Kotori are pretty silly with money. I think she has a little crush on the producer, and I'll be honest, I sort of did too! I don't care if she's a demon drill sergeant. She's still my favorite idol

This is such a hard decision for me XD! I love both Chihaya and Azusa... I really like their character personalities and don't make me start to talk about their voices... I think I'll go with Azusa though, I've liked her the longest ^^ But I like Chihaya just as much. I really like Iori, Takane, Makoto and Yukiho too.

Based on vocal performance, I would put them in groups. Most consistent in hitting notes well: Takane Azusa Chihaya Most powerful, but not necessarily the most consistent: Hibiki Makoto Miki "Sweet", mainly song-dependant: Yukiho Iori Haruka Tokachi Tier: Mami Ami Bleh: Ritsuko Yayoi I'd say Takane is the best voice overall, with a nice balance of power and consistency. Azusa's voice is pretty soft but she usually gets the job done well no matter what slot you put her in. Chihaya's is quite beautiful and has more power than Azusa's. However, I feel like she tires out and slips on notes a bit more than Takane and Azusa, which is why I don't like Nemurihime or her terrible 9:02pm that much. Hibiki is just fantastic for hitting long extended notes powerfully (her Tonari ni is A++). Hibiki tends to vary her vocals in a way that sounds really nice. In my opinion her power isn't really good for super cute songs (I don't like Hibiki's Destiny, and Here we go! is an experience...) Makoto is great for a deep powerful voice that can also sing ballads pretty well. She's best when she sings smoothly, but in certain songs she sounds too "blocky". Miki and Hibiki are pretty similar. Miki and Hibiki both have a lot of power - Hibiki's is more low pitched and controlled, and Miki's is a more high-pitched and "raw". When Miki's really hits it, she's spot on, but sometimes she overdoes it with her cute voice. Newkiho is still squeaky at her worst, but she's improved in recent songs. Her 99 Nights is the best version. If I'm really picky about vocals for a request and want to use the three in this section, I have to be careful to put them in a good slot for their solo lines. They provide a nice soft contrast but have the possibility of being really on or really off. Iori's voice is pleasant to listen to when it's soft. Futari no Kioku, DIAMOND, and her Garnet cover are some great examples. She does get high pitched in some cute songs, but she isn't as shrill as the Futami Twins or a cute-voice Miki. Haruka is someone I'm conflicted about. Her voice really doesn't have a lot of power and it tends to crack in songs with lots of fast transitions. She can't sustain long notes very well and she's quite inconsistent. However, Haruka has a few songs where she sounds excellent and really smooth ( Kosmos Cosmos, relations, Looking for Love). I just really wish she would use that voice more. The Futami Twins...are quite shrill. I don't use them that much, and when I do it's usually Mami (cause of her hair). Surprisingly I'm not really bothered by the shrillness, it must be because I'm used to them (and have a pretty long history of listening to anime music and past vocaloid stuff, heh). There are some songs where their voices fit pretty well (like their Aozora no Namida cover), but I dislike listening to both of them at the same time. Ritsuko is an idol I don't really like. Her voice is nasally and pitchy. She doesn't vary her singing a lot, so it always sounds like she's yelling in monotone at the listener. While I'm sure Ritsuko has songs she's good at, I don't personally enjoy listening to her that much. Yayoi kind of grates at my ears. I think I've mentioned this before, but there's just something about her voice that sounds unpleasant to me. The only song where I can stand her is maybe Watashi wa Idol REM@STER-A.

Takane is my favorite overall. She has a voice that's both powerful and elegant. Her looks fit her voice, too. Makoto, Azusa, and Ritsuko are up there pretty high as well. I'm usually fond of any combination of those voices, though sometimes Makoto is *too* strong for certain songs or parts.
In general, I tend to prefer more mature voices over cutesy ones like Iori and Yayoi (although I like them too, especially performing together).

Hibiki is my favorite. I especially love her voice when she hits the high notes with vibrato (her version of my little match girl is my favorite). She basically introduced me to the idolm@ster series. She sounds good in almost every songs introduced in im@s and I also wish that she got more m@ster versions with serious and gentle songs like Little match girl, Tonari ni.., my song, and edeN. Tied for second is between takane and chihaya, it's hard to decide between the two because they both sound good. I really like pairing these three together.

Well, If i'm forced to pick between all dem noice grills, It's most likely Makoto. Because if she lost her girl-magnet charm she's got nothing else special i'm guessing. Unless i'm missing something.

Chihaya's 9:02pm is terrible? That's an eye-opener, to the utmost subversion of what I love about her cover.
Now then, my fondness of her stems from a particular spectrum -- it's not so much out of infatuation, but empathy. It's rough to go through things similar to she has, so I'm glad there's something I can relate with.
Right down to visiting the grave.

Azusa's voice is lovely and feminine with that slice of maturity. I did start of being a Chihaya fan for some reason I don't remember, but I ended up switching to Azusa after I learned about the im@s games. Her personality is attractive (to my preference ofc) since she is a onee-chan type as well as being a mature adult. Aside from Takane, the rest in the series is like young girls with teenage mind.
