You know I've been thinking a lot about the possibilities about the 3rd vision of iDOLM@STER and I'm starting to get a very bad feeling. Bare in mind this franchise started in 2005. These voice actresses have been voicing these character (not counting Azumi Asakura, Yumi Hara, and Manami Numakura - who all started later on in the series) for over 12 years by the time 2017 rolls around.
I just found out Asami Imai is 39-years-old. I thought she was like 29 or something. In 2006 she originally wanted to quit as a voice actress but only decided against it because she grew too attached to her role as Chihaya and just couldn't let anyone else voice her. That was over ten years ago. Also, she hasn't voiced any new anime since 2014. She's voiced a few characters in recent years primarily in video games and seems to be focusing more on her music career. We very well could see the end of Asami Imai's iDOLM@STER career announced in January. Which means no more Chihaya. Just let that thought sink in before the next one.
Chiaki Takahashi is the same age as Asami Imai. Out of all of the voice actresses I just get this vibe from her that she isn't 100% into this anymore. Also, something about her personality just rubs me the wrong way. She seems rather stuck up nowadays in interviews and livestreams and I'm beginning to dislike her. Like Imai, she seems to be returning focus to her music career though she has had a couple of small voice acting roles in a few anime series. Most recently her J-Pop group, Aice5, has reunited and are planning a tour. She is also the only seiyuu that is a freelance agent so there is no production studio to keep her there; she can leave at any given second. I could seriously see Takahashi leaving the franchise. That would mean Azusa is gone as well.
Yumi Hara has been picking up speed in the voice actress area. She's been starring in more prominent roles in recent anime series and has put her music career on the back burner. I'm torn with her. Could she stay in the iDOLM@STER franchise to keep her music career alive? Yes. Could she leave the iDOLM@STER franchise to further her voice actress career? Yes. So if Yumi Hara leaves, there will be no Takane.
Next up Eriko Nakamura. Outside of iDOLM@STER she's a bit of a no-name. Besides her role as Haruka she hasn't really had as big of a role. I don't see her leaving the franchise and leaving her only claim to fame.
The same can be said for Azumi Asakura. Besides voicing Yukiho she hasn't held a huge role else where that's truly note worthy. That and she's one of the younger ones. I can see her staying for a few more years.
So um Mayako Nigo is apparently 37-years-old. Pretty energetic voice for being that age. She has had a less successful career out of all of the voice actresses. She has only held 8 roles in her career, the majority of them being minor except for the role of Yayoi. I can see her retiring and quietly disappearing from what little limelight she has. That would be the last Hi-Touch from Yayoi we'll get.
Even though she's 40-years-old, Naomi Wakabayashi will never quit iDOLM@STER...or could she? She lives and breathes the franchise. Though she did just have her first child in 2015. Could she possibly retire to concentrate on her new family? That would be an emotionally goodbye to Ritsuko, as Naomi is one of if not the most dedicated voice actress in the franchise.
Rie Kugimiya, I can see her easily retiring at 37-years-old. She is a major voice actress who has voiced dozens if not over a hundred characters in her career, most being major roles. Besides Iori she's very well known as voicing Taiga in Toradora! series. We may be seeing the last of that big forehead of Iori's.
Another one getting up there in age is Hiromi Hirate. Like Rie Kugimiya she has voiced dozens of characters. Though she stopped voice acting in 2015 and has only recorded songs in the iDOLM@STER series in recent years. Makoto could easily be departing as well.
Asami Shimoda I don't see her leaving quite yet. She seems pretty content doing the Vocaloid and iDOLM@STER franchises. She is beginning to grow her singing career and may want to distance herself from such cutesy roles in the near future. Though I think her departure from Vocaloid would cause a huge shake up if they can't replace her. I think Shimoda still has a good few years in her before she considers to officially leave the franchises fully.
Akiko Hasegawa is an enigma. Try looking her up, you'll find barely anything about her. She got married two years ago though claimed she would continue to work hard in the iDOLM@STER franchise. Her true outstanding role is voicing Miki really. She's done some voice work for smaller anime series with lead roles here and there but nothing that would immediately jump out at you. With Miki being her biggest role, I don't think she would leave quite yet but who knows. The guy she married isn't in the entertainment industry and maybe she wants to settle down and live a quiet life after all.
Manami Numakura is the youngest voice actress in the series. I don't see her leaving unless she wants to really expand her already extensive voice actress resume. She has voiced dozens of characters, from a lot of major anime series. Besides her work voicing Hibiki, she really doesn't have the biggest music career. She's released CDs here and there but nothing like Asami Imai or Chiaki Takahashi. I don't know if she would stay or not. She seems to be like Yumi Hara, she's been voicing a lot of characters recently and may leave to expand her voice actress career further. No more "Haisai!" from Hibiki if that happens.
I honestly think we could be seeing the end of 765Pro and the start of the ML girls take over in the their places in 2017. Meaning Platinum Stars could be the last game to have all 13 idols in the game and that revolves around 765Pro. That and if the ML anime does get cleared that would solely back this up even further. Also it would give them the chance to expand SideM further and perhaps get an anime series as well if 765Pro were to be retired for the most part. Even if 765Pro were still around would it be worth it without some of the voice actresses there if they finally retire after 12 years?
